AI & SEO Tools, Tested on Real Sites

Every tool reviewed here has been used on a site I actually run. Where I haven’t used something long enough to have a real opinion, I say so rather than padding the list.

How these comparisons are put together

Tested, not summarized. Feature tables copied from vendor marketing pages are worthless — every tool sounds excellent in its own words. What matters is what breaks in week three.

Trade-offs stated plainly. Every tool is wrong for somebody. A comparison that concludes “they’re all great, pick what suits you” is avoiding the work. Each piece here says who a tool is wrong for.

Priced honestly. Including what happens when you exceed the starter tier, which is where most AI and SEO tools do their real pricing.

The categories covered

AI visibility and GEO tracking — the newest and most confusing category. Tools that monitor whether ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini mention your brand. Prices range from free to several hundred a month for what is sometimes the same data.

AI SEO and content tools — research, briefs, optimization. The category with the widest gap between marketing claims and delivered value.

WordPress plugins — schema, caching, SEO, and the infrastructure that determines whether anything else you do gets crawled properly.

On affiliate links

Some links here are affiliate links, marked as such. It changes nothing about what gets recommended — a tool I wouldn’t use isn’t worth the commission, and a comparison you can’t trust has no value to either of us. Where a free tool is genuinely the right answer, that’s what the article says.

Not sure what you need? The GEO section explains which of these tools actually matter for AI search visibility, and in what order.
